Uncentered Balance

The opening was at Bank Street College New York City on February 12th, 2020. Twenty-four pieces were displayed, all vessels, many of which were smoke fired. Bank Street lobby was packed—approximately one hundred people attended. Salvatore Vascellaro gave a twenty-minute artist talk in which he described, with humor, his intense immersion into ceramics and how he works to create a sense of movement, to give essentially static forms life. The animated audience was deeply engaged and gave resounding applause.

Some comments people made as they looked at the exhibit:

“Exceptional. Out of the studio his work is even more stunning.”
“He has found joy and it shows in his work.”
“Beautiful. Gorgeous. I really love all of these.”
“Look at number nine! He preserves the nature of the material.”
“Sal’s work has such a sensual quality and at the same time, it’s quiet.”
